Pistorius kufanyiwa uchunguzi wa akili

Jaji katika kesi inayomkabili Oscar Pistorius anasema kuwa mwanariadha huyo lazima aanza kufanyiwa uchunguzi wa kiakili kuanzia Jumatatu wiki ijayo kwa mwezi mmoja kubaini hali ya akili yake alipomuua mpenzi wake Reeva Steenkamp.

Jaji Thokozile Masipa aliamuamuru Pistorius kua awe anakwenda katika hospitali ya maradhi ya kiakili ya Weskoppies mjini Pretoria kila siku kuanzia tarehe 26 mwezi Mei.

Amri ya jaji inakuja baada ya shahidi mmoja wa upande wa mashitaka kusema kuwa mwanariadha huyo anakumbwa na matatizo ya kuzongwa na mawazo pamoja na kuwa na wasiwasi wakati wote.

Bwana Pistorius amekanusha madai ya kumuua mpenzi wake Reeva Steenkamp kusudi.

Anasema kwamba kwa bahati mbaya alimpiga risasi kupitia mlango wa choo baada ya kushikwa na wasiwasi akidhani kuwa alikuwa jambazi aliyevamia nyumba yake.

Pregnant woman to get 100 lashes in Sudan

 A Sudanese immigrant living in New Hampshire has returned to Sudan to try to save his wife, who is eight months pregnant and facing the death penalty there for marrying a Christian.

Daniel Wani is a Sudanese man with U.S. citizenship who has been living in Manchester, N.H.
His wife, Meriam Yehya Ibrahim Ishag, became the focus of worldwide news reports last week after the Sudanese government sentenced her to death. She is eight months pregnant.

Goethe-Institut hosts music and culture journalism workshop [Nigeria]

Nigerian journalists with a strong interest in culture and music can attend a workshop in Lagos. 
 
In anticipation of the launch of Music In Nigeria (MiNaija), an upcoming online magazine, the Goethe-Institut Lagos will select 10 reporters to participate in a five-day workshop to learn the basics of music and culture journalism.

Participants will be tutored on the standards of review and critique, interviewing and feature writing. The program also seeks to identify potential contributors for the magazine and develop the magazine's concept further to fit the requirements of the local market.

The magazine's goal is to initiate more content-driven discourse on contemporary Nigerian music. The project will be closely linked to the regional Music in Africa initiative.

Florian Sievers, a German journalist with SPEX magazine, and Edward Keazor, a regional editor for Music in Africa, will lead the workshop in English.

The workshop will take place May 19-23.

CUNY offers business journalism fellowship [Worldwide]

Journalists with at least five years of experience can apply for a three-month fellowship.

The McGraw Center for Business Journalism at the City University of New York's Graduate School of Journalism has inaugurated a fellowship program to support in-depth coverage of business and the global economy.

 The new fellowship provides editorial and financial support to journalists who need the time and resources to tackle complex, time-consuming stories.

The program is accepting applications for long-form print or radio pieces. Fellows will receive US$5,000 a month for three months.

Freelance journalists, as well as reporters and editors working at news organizations, may apply. International journalists are also eligible as long as their reporting is completed in English and targeted to a U.S. media outlet and audience.

The application deadline is May 15.
