Media professionals who report on the environment or are interested
in strengthening the environmental news community can apply for a grant.
The Earth Journalism Network
is seeking to invest in strategic opportunities for media development,
build the capacities of local environmental journalism networks and
their members, and help energy reporters respond to their communities’
needs.
Projects aimed at building networks of environmental journalists are
especially encouraged to apply. Projects that use innovative methods to
build networks or distribute environmental news will also be favorably
viewed.
The network has a total of US$50,000 available for the coming year, to be divided among at least five projects.
In the past, the Earth Journalism Network has supported local
initiatives such as the creation of an SMS-based environmental news
service in the Philippines, the development of training materials for
the use of Web 2.0 tools in environmental journalism in Argentina and
the establishment of a network of environmental journalists in South and
Central Asia.
The deadline is Oct. 15.
